In 2015, The Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education is celebrating 30 years of bringing educators, resource personnel, scientists and researchers together to share experiences and ideas. Be part of our 30th Annual Conference! Do you have great ideas, lesson plans or favorite activities that you want to share? Are you an expert on cutting edge Environmental Education topics? Consider presenting at the 2015 Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Educators Conference, February 5-8, 2015 at the Princess Royale in Ocean City, Maryland. Please review the information below and use the link to submit your proposal for pre-conference workshops, conference sessions and field trips. The online proposal will contain the following components:

Session Type:

There are a number of ways you can present your ideas or share your experiences. Consider the following options:

Friday Workshops:
– half day (3 hour) workshop, or
– full day (6 hour) workshop

Saturday Session:
– 60 minute presentation
– 130 minute presentation (double session)
– Poster session

Sunday Field Trips
– 1-3 hours

Strands

The strands are areas that we are focusing on this conference. The strand helps to shape or categorize your presentation for attendees, please review the following strands, you will be asked to select one that best fits your presentation.

Strand One: Natural History

Sessions in this strand focus on increasing participants’ knowledge of the natural world and how it functions. Topics could include a focus on conservation, preservation, human history, flora and fauna identification, general ecology or interpretation.

Strand Two: Hot Button Topics

Sessions should focus on current trends and issues in environmental or outdoor education. Topics could include diversity, alternative energy, climate change, environmental health, or education methods to engage an audience in a discussion of topics of contention.

Strand Three: Lessons & Examples from the Field

Share your experiences, programs, tips and tricks for environmental and outdoor education. Activities in and out of the classroom, connections with curriculum, hands-on lessons and experiences help build our teaching capacity. Share what you did and how you did it.

Strand Four: Partnerships in Action

Partnerships are crucial for building capacity and providing environmental education programming, these sessions would share experiences with funding, working with profits and non-profits, capacity building and outreach, and know-how in developing partnerships and finding partners.

Strand Five: Greening Maryland Schools

These sessions focus on all things related to becoming a MAEOE green school as well as tips and tricks to have schools become “greener”. Staff development and buy-in, engaging the school community, student led projects, tips and tricks for schools, and successful efforts to green a school would fit this strand.

Strand Six: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM)

The environment can be the center of STE(E)AM learning. This strand explores ways to infuse STEAM activities and projects into environmental education efforts. These are ways to integrate art, design, use popular software, apps, geographic information systems or other technology to teach or solve environmental issues.

Proposal Information: It is recommended that you write this information ahead of time in another application and cut and paste it into the online proposal.

Presentation Title (limit 10 words) – Remember – this helps ‘sell’ your presentation to attendees.

Detail Description: (limit 3000 characters (400-500 words)) This is used by the reviewers to understand what your presentation is about. Provide an outline of what you will do during your workshop or session. Provide enough detail so reviewers will have a good idea of what will happen during your workshop or session.

Program Description (less than 500 characters – 100 words) – This is the description that will go in the program and entice people to come to your session – so sell it! Be descriptive enough for conference attendees, but concise. This may be edited in the final program.

As part of the proposal you will also be asked how you would like the room set up and if there is a second presenter.
