What are the benefits of becoming a Maryland Green School?
In addition to the enhanced school pride and state-wide visibility of award recipients, MAEOE also provides incentives and rewards for Green Schools and Green Centers. To find out more, please see the Benefits of Becoming a Maryland Green School or Center page.
How long does Maryland Green School/Center designation last?
The Maryland Green School/Center designation lasts for 4 years. Schools and Centers that are re-applying must declare their intent to do so in late winter. In order to become a Sustainable School, Maryland Green Schools/Centers must have re-certified successfully three times for the past fourteen years.
What is the application deadline?
File the Intent to Apply Fee in December. Applications must be received by Early Spring. Please click here for this year’s dates. If application materials are sent via mail, please allow time for the delivery. Applicants will be informed of their status in late April and will be invited to attend a Green Schools Ceremony at the Youth Summit held in late May.
Where do I send my application?
Applicants are encouraged to submit an electronic application. If you are not sending an electronic format, applications should be sent to Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education, 7761 Waterloo Rd, Jessup, MD 20794 or delivered to one of the designated drop off sites.
When did I last certify?
Please see our current list of Green Schools and the date of your last certification here. If you add four years to that date, that is year you need to recertify.
How do we re-certify?
Maryland Green Schools/Centers who are re-certifying for the first, second, and third time go through the same applications as schools applying for the first time. Sustainable Schools & Centers use a simplified application to re-certify.
